What an experience this has been! 🤩

This challenge took me a few more days to complete than I’d planned (because, let’s be honest, I wanted to give each cover all the love I possibly could!). I’ve spent countless hours glued to my iPad, experimenting, learning, and pouring everything I had into these 31 book covers. Probably not the healthiest choice, but definitely one of the most rewarding ones. 😅

I’ve learned so much through this challenge, and not just about lettering, but about storytelling through book cover design. The variety of prompts Aurelie created was such an incredible, thoughtful mix that naturally lent itself to different genres and moods. Exploring all of them through book cover illustrations was an absolute joy!

This challenge has honestly been one of the most exciting parts of my year. It’s helped me reconnect even more deeply with my love for books and illustration, and given me space to really express what I love creating most.

And to top it all off, I’m beyond thrilled (and still a bit stunned) that I’m one of the three winners of this year’s challenge! 🥹✨ It truly feels like the cherry on top after weeks of hard work and sleepless nights!

I’m so grateful for everyone in this amazing community for all the support, encouragement, and inspiration along the way. Seeing everyone’s creations and cheering each other on has been such a highlight. 💜

And of course, a huge thank you to my family and my husband for their endless patience and love through this whole process. I couldn’t have done it without them. Love you guys so much! 🥰

Day 31 — the final prompt of the #LetteringStyleChallenge2025 — #Ampersand.

I honestly can’t believe I made it here. When I started this challenge, I didn’t expect to see the end — not after battling a two-year-long creative block. But who knew this was exactly what I needed to revive my creative spirit?

This month has been such a rollercoaster — from struggling with conceptualization and time management to experimenting with styles I’d never even heard of. I wrestled with tricky color palettes, lettering styles that made me want to quit halfway, and the exhaustion that comes from creating every single day... Yet somehow, I did it.

And in the process, I learned so much more than just lettering techniques:

• To trust the process, even when it feels messy.
• That consistency beats perfection every single time.
• That deadlines aren’t always the enemy — sometimes they’re exactly the push you need.

But more than the art, it’s the people who made this journey special. I’ve met some amazing new friends and fellow artists — I think I finally found my lettering tribe.

What a wild ride! Every project and challenge I complete leaves me with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Especially to this scale, the biggest and most intensive lettering project I had so far (about 100 hours alone this month, not including the sketching stage).

It’s been amazing to meet new artists and their various interpretations for the same styles! I’m thankful to @aureliemaron for hosting and organising this event so professionally, and to a group of hard-working people, where we encouraged each other to do our best, even through more difficult stages.

What did I learn from this event?

• To push my skill limits while staying mindful of my energy, as well as staying kind to myself.
• To share authentic stories and thoughts with each piece. I believe that’s where genuine connection is built between art and audience.
• To stay true to my values and create according to MY wishes. That’s what kept me motivated and disciplined, even when the impact was not as big as I wished for.

I’ve named this collection “Lettering Out Loud” because that’s the essence of what I wanted to achieve: communicate my true self, through struggles and joys, in an effort to make lettering art a medium of connection and storytelling. Also, I couldn’t resist the cheek that it shortens to LOL.

But I’m not done with it! I plan on further shaping this collection and making it available as products, so stay tuned.

It’s been such a joy to take part in this challenge again this year, reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones along the way.

I’m always amazed by how creativity thrives within limitations and this time, I wanted to tell a little story about exactly that.

“Challenge accepted!” I thought to myself in October, and I set myself the goal of completing the #letteringstylechallenge2024 by @aureliemaron.

Here’s what I’m taking away from this creative month:

• I defined an overall theme and, before the challenge began, chose the words and lettering pieces I would create for each style. That meant I could jump straight into making. I’m also pretty sure I’ll continue using the results as inspiration in the future.
• I planned to prepare several posts on the weekends. That didn’t happen. During the week, I often sat down to work late in the evening. BUT: I followed through, and it showed me that a daily routine really is possible — although I did skip two days and catch up afterwards.
• I created both analogue and digital lettering. Analogue comes more naturally to me, but it was wonderful to dive deeper into digital lettering. Experimenting was fun and I improved my skills, even though there’s still plenty of room to grow.
• It was wonderful to explore the different styles and interpret them creatively. I’ve never worked across such a broad range during all my years of lettering.
• Would I do it again? I’m not sure yet. I’m definitely a little proud and very happy that I created something for every style (with the exception of one piece from last year), but making something new every single day is demanding and very time-consuming. After finishing the challenge, I treated myself to a little lettering break.
